Historical view of Karimnagar

The History of Karimnagar district is linked with Shathavahanas. “Kotilingalu is the chief centre for Shathavahanas during their ruling” histories say. Though we have many evidences of development from Old Stone Age, but actual development and growth of district is remarkable from Shathavahanas period only.

The history of the Karimnagar district starts from the Old Stone Age i.e. from 1,48,000 back. It is evident from the tools, culture and other materials found at different places in Karimnagar. The exhaustions at Pedda Bonkur, Dhollikatte and Kotilingalu are evidences for history. From these evidences it is concluded that Karimnagar is ruled by Shathavahanas. After Shathavahanas Mourya Kings, Asafzalu Kings ruled over Karimnagar. The buildings, constructions made by these kings are today remarkable evidences of the history.

Karimnagar was also influenced by Jaina and Buddha cultures. Buddha mound at Dhoolikatte of 12 th century and Jaina temple at stambam pally are the examples. Karimnagar is also famous for different types of hills such as Rakhi hills, Kandikal hills etc. water sources for the district was mainly Godavari River and its stream Manir river pass through the Karimnagar. Other small streams like Mayathummeda, Erukulla, Vemulawada, Hussianmiya, Pedda vagu, Bandal vagu and Nakkala vagu are also chief resources for agriculture and drinking water.

Industrially also well developed district Karimnagar, N.T.P.C, Singareni coal mines, Graniteplates, Lime plates etc, are the main industries in Karimnagar. Particularly Karimnagar district is red soiled land. Beautiful forests are at different places like Yellareddi pet, Raikal, Sarangapur, Kothlapur, Masharrao, Mahadevapur.
